Care for the Elderly
Helping Older Adults Age with Dignity
For many older adults in Haiti, growing older means facing isolation, poverty, declining health, and limited access to medical care. Some live alone. Others have been neglected or abandoned without the support they need to meet even their most basic needs.
The Missionaries of Mary, Queen of the Apostles believe that every older person deserves to be treated with dignity, compassion, and respect. Through SAPAMIE’s Care for the Elderly Program, vulnerable older adults receive practical assistance, compassionate care, and the reassurance that they are valued members of their communities.
Caring for the Whole Person
The Care for the Elderly Program addresses the physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs of older adults through services that include:
- Home visits
- Regular medical consultations and follow-up care
- Distribution of food, hygiene kits, and clothing
- Psychosocial support
- Spiritual accompaniment
- Education and awareness for families on caring for older adults
By meeting people where they live and walking alongside them with compassion, the program helps older adults remain healthier, more connected, and better supported.
Restoring Hope and Dignity
The Care for the Elderly Program seeks to reach hundreds of vulnerable older adults through regular home visits, medical care, essential medicines, food assistance, and the training of community health workers who provide ongoing care and support.
Beyond meeting immediate needs, the program works to reduce isolation, strengthen physical and emotional well-being, and promote greater respect for older adults within their families and communities.
Every visit, every meal, every medical consultation, and every conversation reminds an older person that they are seen, valued, and loved.
