Case Statement

Why Sapamie?

Haiti’s ongoing economic hardship, insecurity, and limited access to healthcare have left many families struggling simply to survive. Among those most affected are older adults living alone, mothers facing overwhelming challenges, and children whose education is threatened by poverty.

For many elderly Haitians, growing older means living without reliable medical care, nutritious food, or regular human connection. Many are isolated and unable to meet even their most basic needs.

SAPAMIE was created to change that.

Through home visits, medical care, food assistance, psychosocial and spiritual support, and practical help, SAPAMIE accompanies older adults with compassion and respect while helping them remain healthy, connected, and valued.

At the same time, the Missionaries of Mary, Queen of the Apostles recognize that lasting change requires strengthening entire communities. Their work also includes providing affordable healthcare through the Our Lady of Mount Carmel Health Center, supporting vulnerable mothers with health services and economic opportunities, and helping children remain in school through scholarships and educational assistance.

Together, these programs form a holistic response to poverty—meeting immediate needs while creating opportunities for healthier, stronger communities.

Every contribution to Friends of SAPAMIE helps bring hope, healing, and dignity to some of Haiti’s most vulnerable neighbors.
