Our Story

In Haiti, growing old should be a time of dignity, respect, and care. Yet for far too many older adults, it is marked by isolation, illness, and poverty. Many have no regular access to healthcare, nutritious food, or even someone to visit them and remind them they are not forgotten.

Recognizing this urgent need, the Missionaries of Mary, Queen of the Apostles founded SAPAMIE to ensure that vulnerable older adults could age with dignity while receiving the care, companionship, and practical support they deserve.

Founded in Haiti by Rev. Fr. Luc Jolicoeur, O.H., the Missionaries of Mary, Queen of the Apostles have served vulnerable communities since 2001. Inspired by Catholic values of compassion and service, the congregation works alongside those facing poverty, illness, and exclusion.

Today, SAPAMIE has grown into more than an elderly support program. Through the dedication of the Missionaries and local volunteers, it now serves vulnerable communities through four interconnected initiatives:

  • Care and support for older adults
  • The Our Lady of Mount Carmel Health Center
  • Support for vulnerable mothers
  • Education and scholarships for children from low-income families

Together, these programs recognize that healthy communities are built by caring for every generation—from children beginning their education to mothers building stronger futures and older adults who deserve to live with dignity, respect, and hope.

Friends of SAPAMIE was created to invite partners, donors, churches, and communities to join this mission. Together, we are helping ensure that Haiti’s most vulnerable neighbors are not forgotten.
